Here is footage that Matt took with Mocha club director Barrett Ward at the Village of Hope! We are going to start using more video, so we hope you find it as encouraging as we do! Yeah, we know it’s a bit pixely, but it’s our first video! Ease up!
You are sending Calvary Youth Hostel boys to college!
Here’s some exciting news! Those of you who’ve been with us for awhile will remember the 14 orphan boys we’re supporting at the Calvary Youth Hostel in the Kibera slums of Nairobi, Kenya. In 2004, these boys were sleeping on the floor of the Calvary Christian School that we support. When we found them there, we decided to make an orphanage where they could live safely and attend school. Three years later, we are putting 7 of them in college.
Click on the image below to see a listing of where each boy will be attending school:
You can also go to this post from February 2006 where several of the boys talked about their career aspirations. This will now be possible for them to achieve, thanks to you!
Grace Orphanage in Ghana appreciates you!
A report from Sam Oppong, our Director in Ghana, and the orphans you are serving at Grace Orphanage…
FOOD
The feeding of some school children continues in the Odumasi Methodist Preparatory, Primary and Junior High Schools. Margaret heads the Preparatory School. We are currently feeding 53 children.
SCHOOL UNIFORMS AND BOOKS
More school uniforms and books were also distributed to needy children at the schools. The items included exercise books, pens, pencils and mathematical sets. Margaret is seen with some of the parents before the distribution.
HIV / AIDS
A check was presented to the Sunyani Regional Hospital covering the drugs for 60 AIDS-infected people whom African Leadership is taking care of.
This young man below, Prince Amoako Atta, age 15, has lost both parents and is infected by AIDS himself. African Leadership is taking care of all his needs including medication. Prince doesn’t look like a 15 year old boy because of his situation.
THANKS TO YOU
The HIV/AIDS-infected people expressed their appreciation to African Leadership for their continuous support. One of the patients explained that but for the donation, he would have stopped accessing the drugs because he did not have money to pay for them himself. A woman, who has also benefited from the support, was full of praise for God and African Leadership. She explained that the donation came in at the right time when she had exhausted all her money. She said her condition has improved and the doctor has testified to that effect.
Deng’s Hyena Scare + Recovery
In the Sudan, children sleep in trees at night because of no proper housing, and hyena attacks are very common. In a death census taken last year, James Lual Atak, Indigenous Director for Make Way Partners, an organization we’ve joined forces with in the Sudan, reported that in addition to being at risk to human trafficking, “More than 280 orphans have died in our community of Nyamlell, Sudan this year alone, simply because they do not have a safe place to sleep at night.” The number one cause for these deaths was hyena attacks.
Can you imagine? This photo below is of a little boy named Deng of maybe 5 years old who was rushed into our clinic. He had been trying to sleep in a tree and fell out! It split his head so severely, they could see his skull…
But the “after” photo is something to be excited about! Thanks to YOUR help through Mocha Club, we are working with Make Way Partners to build dormitories for children like Deng so they can sleep safely. Deng was also able to receive medical care, or he surely would have died. The below photo shows Deng smiling as the Doctors check on the progress of his healing. They treated him over a period of days with stitches, love, and antibiotics, and he recovered completely!
